Mutual regard and respect are the threads which tie this exhibition together.  All five women artists have been steadily focused on their art for a lifetime, and have witnessed and accompanied each other through their long careers.  Their growth and commitment to their work has been nurtured by conversations, group  and individual exhibitions, visits to museums and galleries, and shared  knowledge and encouragement.  All of them have shown their work widely, in New York, Massachusetts,  New Jersey, California, Chicago,  Minnesota, and the Netherlands.

Mary Alice Copp, a bay area native, lived in New Jersey for 40 years.  Ten years ago she and her husband David returned to California to live in her family’s cabin  in Rio Del Mar.  There she met  Coeleen Kiebert, a well known ceramic artist and teacher.  On visits to New York Mary Alice introduced Coeleen to her east coast artist friends.  This show grew out of the artists’ enthusiasm for each others’ work.

Four of the artists lived in New Jersey for 40 years.  One of them, Laufey Vilhalmsdottir  Bustany, is from Iceland, and will show large serene oil paintings of Iceland.  LaThoriel Badenhausen has her studio in Chelsea, Manhattan, near the High Line.   Her work will include beaded and embroidered sanitary napkins and a big wall drawing  made of women’s hair nets.  Carol Goodman currently lives in Williamstown, Massachusetts and will  exhibit  pastel landscapes of that area.   Coeleen Kiebert has made a ceramic installation titled “My Mother’s Dressing Table” which includes jars, shoes, beads and gloves.  Mary Alice Copp will present a dozen new oil paintings of places in nothern California of particular significance to her.
