From Beat to Beyond-First Friday Reception March 3, 5-9 pm

Curated by April Reed.

Madge Bennett, Gerd Stern, Raymon Ginghofer, and George Abend were peers and rising stars on San Francisco’s North
Beach arts scene in the early Fifties. Then their lives took very different directions. Gerd, who began as a poet, became a
successful artist whose works grace museums; Ray lived abroadand exhibited his Pop Art internationally; George moved to New York and rose to fame for his Abstract Expressionism; Madge led a life of Zen frugality and passed leaving most of her extraordinary works undiscovered. But throughout the decades, across continents and oceans, and with many changes of style, the four maintained an abiding connection—even unto the beyond. That connection is now made plain by an exhibit of their works. We hope you’ll join us for this unique retrospective.

SPECIAL EVENT: THURSDAY MARCH 23 AT 6 PM

Gerd Stern will read his poetry and present an impromptu art history lecture, including tales of Ginsberg, Kesey, et al. Limited Seating.
