Celebrating Santa Cruz native Ross Jones’s lifetime commitment to the fine arts and his impact on the many students at Santa Cruz High School and beyond during his decades of teaching and inspiring young artists.   Ross began painting and drawing at an early age, and art courses were always of prime interest to him.  In 1950, he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from San Jose State University.  In 1965 Ross obtained a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico

Ross taught drawing, design, composition, and painting at Santa Cruz High School, junior college and university level for twenty years.

Ross has worked in watercolors, acrylics, and oils. His most recent work-inspired by several late nineteenth and early twentieth century impressionists and landscape painters- focuses on the landscapes of California’s Central Coast.

Ross has exhibited his work throughout California.  In August 2002 he received an honorable mention in the National Landscape competition.
