Jody Alexander will be at the gallery and will give an informal talk about her Rydell Visual Arts Fellowship exhibit, KEEP: Modern Library, beginning at 2:30. Her artist’s book, KEEP, that accompanies the exhibit will be available for purchase at that time.

The performance will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m.; since seating will be limited, we recommend arriving early. Following the concert, we recommend that you take time to enjoy the current exhibit (2014-15 Rydell Visual Arts Fellows Exhibition), partake in refreshments, and socialize. One of the 2014-15 Rydell Fellows, Jody Alexander, will be attending the concert and will remain in the gallery afterwards to answer any questions you may have about her work.
The Sister Brothers are Dan Landry, Jim MacKenzie, and Heidi Rentería. We sing songs with roots in the Appalachian, bluegrass, and old-school country music traditions, in close, three-part vocal harmonies. Usually accompanied by a single acoustic guitar or sung a cappella, our music is performed the old-fashioned way – without amplification.We sing songs by folks like the Carter Family, Flatt & Scruggs, Bill Monroe, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, the Stanley Brothers, the Delmore Brothers, and the Louvin Brothers, plus traditional songs whose composers are unknown.Although each of us has extensive and varied singing experience, we’ve been singing together as a trio only for the past three and a half years, building our repertoire and developing our own unique arrangements.
The Rydell Visual Arts Fellows Exhibition continues through the month of January. If you have not seen the work of these three Fellows, we hope you will make a point of coming in to see it.
Jody Alexander, the fellowship recipient for 2015, is a bookmaker, librarian and teacher. She binds books with found and discarded papers and fabric in a number of historical and modern binding styles and combines them with found objects to create sculptural works and installations.
Jim Denevan, fellowship recipient for 2014, is a surfer, chef and internationally renowned land artist known for his monumental, temporary drawings on California beaches.
Elizabeth Stephens, artist fellow for 2014, is an activist and educator whose art has explored sexuality, gender and feminism for over 25 years. Recently, her film, Goodbye Gauley Mountain, An Ecosexual Love Story, done with her collaborator Annie Sprinkle, opened the 2013 Santa Cruz Film Festival.
